WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Junior Liz Cathcart notched a career-best 20 point effort and sophomore Hannah Reynolds matched the single-season block record as Midwestern State fought off a late Cameron rally to win 79-70.
 
The Mustangs (10-14, 7-10 LSC) snapped a seven-game slide to the Aggies (7-18, 4-13) while winning their fifth-straight at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
Cathcart recorded the team's second 20-point performance of the season and first of her career, going 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line with a pair of assists. The Spring Branch native put up 15 in the first half for her fourth-straight game in double figures.
 
Reynolds scored 10 of her 14 after the intermission, with two of her three blocks coming after the break to tie Shambreka Jones' single-season record of 58 with 1:38 to play. The Prosper native matched a team-high with seven rebounds and handed out three assists.
 
Cameron's Maighan Hedge scored a game-high 22 in the loss, going 8-of-17 from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line. The Aggies' guard grabbed four rebounds and led all players with six assists.
 
Lejha Smith added 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, knocking down 5-of-7 from the free throw line and corralling six rebounds.
 
MSU Texas went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line in the first half and held the Aggies to a meager 16.7 percent (1-for-6) from the 3-point line to build a 40-33 advantage. Cameron entered the contest as the 30th-best 3-point shooting team in the nation at 35.6 percent.
 
After a 7-2 run to start the second half, the Mustangs pushed the advantage to as many as 13 (50-37) with 5:05 to play in the third before a 7-2 run by the Aggies to close out the quarter.
 
Cameron started the fourth quarter on a 12-6 run to trim the Maroon and Gold's lead to one with 5:45 to play on a Smith and-1, 64-63.
 
Both sides exchanged baskets before MSU Texas Mica Schneider put the final nail in the Aggies' coffin on a 3-point dagger with 4:06 to play pushed the Mustangs lead to four, 70-66.
 
Leading by two with 1:50 to play, the Mustangs ended the contest on a 9-2 run to end their woes against the Aggies, 79-70.
 
Schneider turned in a strong all-around performance for the Mustangs, scoring eight points, five assists and matching a season-best with seven rebounds.
