Stellar efforts from Harris, Thomas fall to the wayside in loss to UTPB

THE RUNDOWN
ODESSA, Texas – UT Permian Basin's Jacob Ledoux scored 34 points as the Falcons knocked off Midwestern State 80-61 on Saturday at the Falcon Dome.
 
MSU Texas drops to 7-18 overall and 3-12 in Lone Star Conference play and remain a game-back of Cameron after the Aggies lost to Western New Mexico on Saturday.
 
Ledoux went 12-of-20 from the field, connecting on 5-of-6 3-pointers and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line to finish with 34 points.
 
UTPB's Xavier Ledet added a double-double performance, scoring 18 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Ledet went 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
 
The duo of Ledoux and Ledet combined for 52 of the Falcons 80 points.
 
Junior D'Monta Harris led the Mustangs with 17 points and hitting a season-best five 3-pointers. The Pontiac, Mich., native followed up his 16-point effort against Western New Mexico on Thursday with his second-best scoring output of the season.
 
Junior Gilbert Thomas, Jr., posted his fifth double-double, pouring in 12 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. The Houston native went 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
 
Trailing 26-23 with 5:52 to play in the first half, UTPB mounted a 19-0 run over a five-minute span to break the game open.
 
MSU Texas would be unable to close the gap to single digits in the second half in the loss.

- Midwestern State finishes the 2019 road schedule at 2-9
- The Mustangs remain winless (0-4) all-time at UT Permian Basin
- A 19-0 run from 5:52 to 0:18 in the first half allowed the Falcons to take the lead for good
- UTPB's Jacob Ledoux scored 34 points the most MSU Texas has allowed to a single player this season and most since Western State's Ben Beauchamp dropped 46 on Nov. 18, 2017
- The Mustangs shot a season-low 30.6 percent from the field, going 19-of-62 from the floor
- Junior D'Monta Harris hit a season-best five 3-pointers to score 17 points to lead the Mustangs
- Junior Gilbert Thomas, Jr., posted his fifth double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds
