WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Needing a win to keep the postseason hopes alive, Midwestern State's Terrell Wilson converted on the go-ahead layup with 2.3 seconds remaining to give the Mustangs a 62-59 win over Cameron on Tuesday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
On his only bucket of the night, Wilson made the one-shot that mattered, giving MSU Texas (8-18, 4-12 LSC) life for at least one more week. The Mustangs pulled even with the Aggies (8-18, 4-12 LSC) in the league standings, but must finish a game better than CU due to LSC tiebreakers.
 
Junior Gilbert Thomas, Jr., turned in a super-human double-double effort, scoring 16 points and pulling down 23 rebounds, the second-most in NCAA DII this season and most by a MSU Texas player since Khapri Alston grabbed 25 at Angelo State on Jan. 23, 2016.
 
In addition to his work on the glass, Thomas was a force on the interior. The Houston native rejected a season-high six shots, matching ENMU's Chukuka Emili for the most in the LSC this season.
 
Junior D'Monta Harris added 15 points and hitting on four 3-pointers, including a go-ahead trey with 4:01 to play.
 
MSU Texas blanked the Aggies in the first half. After CU hit a jumper to open the contest, the Mustangs strung together a 15-0 run, hitting on 6-of-8 shots from the floor in the first five minutes.
 
The Maroon and Gold took a 31-19 lead at the half, holding Cameron to 6-of-27 from the field and 1-for-9 from long-range. The 19 points allowed were the fewest by the Mustangs this season and least since holding Texas A&M-Kingsville to 17 in the first half on Feb. 1, 2018.
 
As hot as MSU Texas started the first half, it was equally as cold the second half. Cameron put together a 14-2 run as the Mustangs started 0-for-6 from the floor with four turnovers to let the Aggies tie the game at 33.
 
Neither side was able to put the game away. With 2:23 to go, Brock Schreiner hit layups on consecutive possessions for the Aggies to tie the game at 57.
 
Harris missed a 3-pointer on the ensuing MSU Texas possession, but Thomas collected the offensive rebound and drew a trip to the free throw line, hitting both to put the Mustangs up 59-57.
 
A pair of empty trips by both teams gave the Aggies a chance to tie with under 30-seconds to play. Zachary Dumas drove the paint and drew contact before hitting both free throws with 23.7 left to tie the contest at 59.
 
Wilson drove the basket and scored from the left-side with 2.3 seconds to go to put the Maroon and Gold on top for good.
 
Thomas forced a five-second call on the Aggies inbound to clinch the win.
