ODESSA, Texas -- Midwestern State knew exactly what it was up against in the Lone Star Conference game Thursday night at the Falcon Dome.
But seeing UT Permian Basin's trapping zone in living color proved too much as the Falcons rolled to a 74-62 victory.
"We didn't follow the game plan against the 1-3-1," MSU Texas coach
Noel Johnson said. "We didn't consistently do our job with how we needed to operate our offense. We were trading 3s for 2s."
Holly Hemmeline drilled five triples on the way to a game-high 17 points, while Kayla Galinda knocked down three 3's to add 14 more as UTPB led from tip-to-buzzer.
In all, the Falcons connected on 10-of-29 3-pointers while Midwestern State struggled to make five 3-balls on 21 attempts turning the ball over 15 times.
"Credit to UTPB, they close down lanes and forced turnovers," Johnson said.
Senior forward
Elizabeth Cathcart narrowly missed her second straight double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds, while
Shawnisay Millar went perfect from the field hitting all four of her field goal attempts including two 3-pointers to close with 12 points
Senior guard
Mica Schneider joined junior forward
Kityana Diaz with seven points each.
Midwestern State returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 14 taking on Western New Mexico at Drag's Court in Silver City. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. (Central Time).
