DENTON, Texas – Taylor Anderson smashed a season-high 10 kills, but Midwestern State was swept by Texas Woman's University on Saturday afternoon inside Kitty Magee Arena. It was the second straight day the Pioneers blanked the Mustangs.
The sophomore, whose previous season-high was seven kills, collected two of her 10 kills in a 25-14 opening set loss. MSU grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the opening frame, before TWU rattled off five straight points. The Pioneers would not trail for the rest of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
The second set was full of runs. MSU sandwiched a pair of 4-0 runs around a TWU 5-0 run to take a 19-17 lead. Later in the set, with the Mustangs leading 22-21, the Pioneers picked up three straight points to claim a 24-22 lead. A
Janiya Chapman kill brought the Mustangs to within one, but a bad set from
Savannah Jones gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
Texas Woman's University completed the sweep with a 26-24 win in the third set.
Sarah Eakin registered nine kills and a .421 hitting percentage. It was the 10th time this season the Wichita Falls native picked up a hitting percentage better than .400.
