WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State won the opening set from visiting Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday night before losing the next three sets in a 3-1 loss at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in the penultimate game of the regular season.
MSU claimed a 25-23 opening set win, capitalizing on 16 Arkansas-Fort Smith errors.
Rockelle Gholson collected two of her nine kills in the opening frame.
"The first set was a good showing of what we can do when we are in system and when we are disciplined to execute what we work on every day," MSU Head Coach
Valerie Armstrong said.
UAFS built up a 15-4 edge in the second set before downing the Mustangs 25-16 to even the match at 1-1.
"We were just trying to do much and we just over rotated a little bit," Armstrong said.
The Lions closed out the match with wins of 25-20 and 25-16.
With Cameron's loss, MSU mainatins a one game lead over the rival Aggies heading into Saturday afternoon's senior day match. The Mustangs must win to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
