MSU upends Dixie State at Ashbrook Classic, 73-63

Reynolds, Schneider named to All-Tournament Team

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Hannah Reynolds, Mica Schneider, and Elizabeth Cathcart all scored in double figures to help Midwestern State to a 73-63 win over Dixie State (Utah) on the final night of the Ashbrook Classic inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

"We had to grind this one out," MSU Head Coach Noel Johnson said. "We had to go to our strengths, especially when they got into foul trouble, which was going inside out."

Reynolds collected 22 points and 8 rebounds while Schneider recorded 18 points on 5-of-15 shooting. Both were named to the All-Tournament Team. Cathcart finished with 16 points and five rebounds.

"Liz had a big night," said Johnson. "She is just big time."

Trailing 13-8 with 1:49 remaining in the opening quarter, the Mustangs used a 7-0 surge, highlighted by four points from Schneider, to claim a 15-13 lead.

The teams traded baskets in the second, with MSU outscoring the Trailblazers 16-15 to carry a 31-28 lead into the break.

A pair of Ashley Greenwood free throws with 2:20 remaining in the third gave Dixie State a 47-44 edge. Reynolds cut the deficit to one with a layup and then following a basket by Dixie State's Makayla Johnson, Reynolds converted an old fashioned three point play to tie the game at 49-49. The junior continued her solo scoring run with a jumper that gave MSU a 51-49 lead with :44 seconds remaining.

"I mean it is really nice to be recognized, but my teammates make everything possible," Hannah Reynolds said. 'We move the ball so well and they make it very easy for me to score."

In the fourth, the Mustangs used a 6-0 run to pull away, taking a 68-60 lead after a Shawnisay Millar free throw with 3:18 left.

"She is tough," said Coach Johnson. "She has a knack for going where the ball is."

The Mustangs iced the game late, converting on all three free throw attempts.
