DALLAS, Texas – Senior
Sergio Lara scored his third game-winning goal of the season, a header off a corner kick in the 70th minute to propel No. 25 Midwestern State past Dallas Baptist, 2-1, on Saturday night at the DBU Patriot Soccer Field.
The win, coupled with a Texas A&M International loss, helped the Mustangs clinch the second seed in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Tournament. MSU won the tiebreaker, head-to-head, after beating the Dustdevils earlier this season.
"The guys have done a good job battling back after that three game losing streak," Head Coach
Michael Meachum. "But, we still have some areas to improve in as we get ready for next week's conference tournament."
Julian Barajas opened the scoring for the Maroon and Gold with a right foot blast inside the 18-yard box in the 16th minute. The Mustangs held the 1-0 advantage until Jose Vazquez found the back of the net in the 69th minute.Â
Goalkeeper
Marc-Antoine Huzen improved to 3-0 this season. The sophomore made two saves.Â
