FINAL SCORE
Texas A&M International 1 (12-6-1)
Midwestern State 3 (14-4-0)
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Sergio Lara scored twice to lift No. 2 Midwestern State past No. 3 Texas A&M International, 4-1, on Friday night in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Semifinals held at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
Lara's opening goal, a tally in the 4th minute that he slipped past a charging Josh Jones, gave MSU the early 1-0 lead.
"It was huge to get that early goal," MSU Head Coach
Michael Meachum said. "Lara has scored in each of his last three games and continues to play well for us."
Julian Barajas pushed the lead to 2-0 with a strike from just outside the box in the 38th minute.
"Julian has been a linchpin for us," Meachum said.
Brandon Cerda scored his first goal of the year in the 50th minute before Lara netted his second goal of the night just over 11 minutes later to make it 4-0 in favor of the Mustangs.
Steve Taylor broke
Taylor Lampe's shutout try in the 84th minute, but that was all the Dustdevils could muster against the Second Team All-Conference goalkeeper.
