WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State was unable to shake off a slow start in a 3-0 loss to Texas Woman's University on Friday night inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Pioneers blitzed the Mustangs in a 25-13 opening set win, using a 5-0 run and a 6-0 run to take a commanding 15-3 lead.
A back and forth second set saw Texas Woman's University claim a 30-28 victory. MSU had three separate match points before TWU rattled off three straight points to come from behind and take a 2-0 lead.
"I thought we played hard in that second set," MSU Head Coach
Valerie Armstrong said. "We had chances to win tonight."
TWU completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set. Tied at 7-7, the Pioneers used a Tabitha Spray kill to fuel a 9-3 run.Â
Rockelle Gholson led the Mustangs with nine kills while freshman
Kaitlyn Masseth dished out 17 assists.
