CANYON, Texas – Sarah Eakin recorded a team-high seven kills, but the Midwestern State Mustangs (3-10, 1-4) were swept 3-0 (23-25, 21-25, 13-25) by the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs (11-2, 5-1) on Friday night at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.
After finding themselves in a 12-9 hole in the first set following a Torrey Miller kill, the Mustangs capitalized on five Lady Buffs errors as part of a 7-0 surge to take a 16-12 lead. But the lead was short lived as West Texas A&M scored seven of the next eight points. MSU rallied late to tie the opening set at 23-23 before the Lady Buffs scored the next two points to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, the team traded points early, and following an Eakin kill, the set was even at 6-6. Four consecutive points from the home team gave the Lady Buffs a lead they would not relinquish.
The Lady Buffs completed the sweep with a strong finish. After a
Raven Presley kill brought Midwestern State to within four at 15-11, the Lady Buffs closed the set on a 10-2 run to clinch the victory.
