CANYON, Texas – A last minute goal by Sean Ryan lifted West Texas A&M to a 1-0 win over No. 13 Midwestern State on Thursday night at The Pitch.
"They caught us on a counter attack and we did not react very well," Head Coach
Michael Meachum said. "Every game is important, especially this time of year, and we did not get it done tonight."
Ryan's goal, in the 89th minute, came off a feed from Roberto Gonzalez inside the box.
The Mustangs had chances to break the scoreless tie earlier in the second half.
Hikaruhito Meike and
Juan Ramirez teamed up to create a scoring chance that went high in the 82nd minute before
Adam Conway's try from 30-yards out went high in the 84th minute.
"We have a lot of selfish play right now," Meachum said. "We have gotten complacent and need to start playing for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back."
Taylor Lampe set a season-high with seven saves.
