LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 13 Midwestern State (7-1, 2-0) scored a season-high four goals to double up Lubbock Christian (5-3, 1-1), 4-2, on Thursday night at the LCU Soccer Field.
"It took a while for us to get going," said Head Coach
Michael Meachum. "Lubbock is a hard place to play and tonight was a grind, but once we started to play our style, I was pleased with our performance."
Sergio Lara opened the scoring for the Mustangs, heading home a
Sebastian Venegas corner kick in the 25th minute to give MSU a 1-0 lead. Venegas has tallied at least one point in three straight games.
"Venegas is an unbelievable talent," said Coach Meachum. "I'm super proud of how he has played this season."
Lubbock Christian tied the game in the 35th minute on a Pablo Diez goal.
Tied 1-1 at the half, MSU erupted for three second half goals to secure the Lone Star Conference win.
Ross Fitzpatrick (50th minute),
Carlos Flores (66th minute), and
Yogi Vargas (69th minute) all scored for MSU.
"Really all three goals were the same," added Coach Meachum. "We pressed high and were able to generate scoring chances inside of the 18 and our guys finished."
