Venegas scores again in romp of UT Permian Basin

ODESSA, Texas - Sebastian Venegas scored to run his point streak to four but the No. 13 Midwestern State Mustangs (8-1, 3-0) were just getting started in a 6-0 Lone Star Conference win over UT Permian Basin (2-7, 0-3) on Saturday afternoon at the UTPB Turf Field.

"Our willingness to get forward was crucial," MSU ccoach Michael Meachum said. "To go 2-0 on this road trip, while outscoring our opponents 10-2, bodes well for us moving forward."

Trevor Amann opened the scoring for Midwestern State with a 30-yard strike in the 15th minute. Venegas followed with a long strike of his own in the 22nd minute to push the Mustangs lead to 2-0. The redshirt junior has tallied three goals and three assists during his four game point streak.

"Venegas has been locked in for us of late," Meachum said. "He is really performing well for us right now."

Juanito Ramirez's follow in the 33rd minute gave Midwestern State a 3-0 lead before half-time.

MSU kept the foot on the gas pedal in the second half, scoring three more times to complete their most lopsided victory of the season. Julian Barajas, Yogi Vargas, and Chase Drackett all scored for MSU.

"Chase is a special player. I'm telling you, people are going to know the name," Meachum said.
