WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State blitzed Texas A&M-Kingsville from the opening serve to earn a 3-1 win on Friday night inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs won the opening set 25-12 behind a .526 hitting percentage.
"We came out strong and aggressive, especially on our attack," MSU coach
Valerie Armstrong said.
After the Javelinas evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-13 win in the second set, Midwestern State retook the lead with a 25-21 win in set three.
Rockelle Gholson collected four of her season-high 17 kills in the frame.
"We needed this win," Gholson said. "Our goal each night is to win the opening set to set the tone for the match."
MSU clinched the Lone Star Conference win with a 25-17 win in the fourth set. Leading 13-11, the Mustangs used a 7-0 run to pull away from the Javelinas.
Sarah Eakin recorded 10 kills and five blocks, marking the sixth time this season the senior has collected at least 10 kills and at least five blocks.
