WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Sergio Lara scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to lift the Mustangs to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Thursday night at Stang Park.
"Sergio is a goal scorer," MSU Texas Coach
Michael Meachum said. "He has done really well for us and I had a feeling that if we kept making those runs, something good would happen."
Lara's golden goal, a 106th minute strike, pushed Midwestern State's winning streak to seven.
The Mustangs opened the scoring just before halftime when
Guilherme Martins Fao finished a
Hikaruhito Meike cross.
After Steve Taylor tied the game in the 75th minute,
Sebastian Venegas responded with a goal just 1:04 later. Venegas has now recorded at least one point in seven straight games.
Despite playing with a man down following a red card in the 88th minute, the Dustdevils forced overtime when Nadav Datner scored with :59 seconds remaining in regulation.
"It's always a battle when we play these guys," said Meachum.
