Seventh heaven: Lara nets golden goal in double overtime as winning streak hits seven

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Sergio Lara scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to lift the Mustangs to a thrilling 3-2 win over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Thursday night at Stang Park.

"Sergio is a goal scorer," MSU Texas Coach Michael Meachum said. "He has done really well for us and I had a feeling that if we kept making those runs, something good would happen."

Lara's golden goal, a 106th minute strike, pushed Midwestern State's winning streak to seven.

The Mustangs opened the scoring just before halftime when Guilherme Martins Fao finished a Hikaruhito Meike cross.

After Steve Taylor tied the game in the 75th minute, Sebastian Venegas responded with a goal just 1:04 later. Venegas has now recorded at least one point in seven straight games.

Despite playing with a man down following a red card in the 88th minute, the Dustdevils forced overtime when Nadav Datner scored with :59 seconds remaining in regulation.

"It's always a battle when we play these guys," said Meachum.
