WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Janiya Chapman recorded her first double-double of the season to lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 Lone Star Conference win over the visiting Western New Mexico Mustangs on Saturday afternoon inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Chapman smashed seven of her team-high 14 kills in the first set and finished with a season-high 11 digs.
"My teammates in the back row did a good job of telling me where to hit it," Chapman said. "We worked well as a team today."
MSU came out firing in the first set, hitting .314 in a 25-21 win. Trailing 9-6, MSU went on a 13-3 run and never looked back to take a 1-0 lead.

It was more of the same in the second set for the Maroon and Gold as another big run propelled MSU. Down 10-9, MSU erupted for five straight points.
Savanna Dodson smashed two of her season-high tying 10 kills during the run. Later in the match, MSU capitalized on three WNM errors to win the set 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead.
Western New Mexico led by as much as eight points in the third set, a 25-19 win.
Midwestern State responded with a dominating 25-11 win in the fourth set to clinch their second Lone Star Conference win of the season. MSU closed the set on a 9-2 run.
"The more we play, the better we are," Armstrong said. "Last night's match helped prepare us for today."
