LAREDO, Texas – Sara Machado scored twice and
Aubrey Pettett earned her first shutout of the season as the Mustangs (2-8-1, 1-5) snapped a seven game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils (2-6-1, 1-3-1) on Saturday afternoon at the Dustdevil Soccer Field.
"Getting this win helps relieve the pressure on everybody, myself included," said Head Coach
Ryan Spence. "Once we got the first goal, I felt the whole pace of the game fell in our favor."
Avery Lewis opened the scoring with a tally in the 19
th minute. Machado's first goal of the day came right before the half as the junior headed home an
Emma Baley cross in the 43
rd minute.
Machado recorded her first career multi-goal game in the 63
rd minute. The Destin, Florida native scored after keeper Ashley Barrientos tried to clear the ball from inside the 18' and punched the ball into Machado's chest. The ball then caromed into the net and MSU had a 3-0 lead.
Pettett made one save as Texas A&M International managed just four shots.
"Our defense held strong today and Pettett played decent," added Spence.
