THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Hannah Reynolds dominated on both ends of the floor on Thursday evening at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The towering 6'4" sophomore turned in her best all-around performance with 16 points, seven rebounds and a career high five assists to go along with a school record eight blocks.
Unfortunately the rest of Midwestern State shot just 24.1 percent (14-of-58) in a 70-57 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce to fall to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in Lone Star Conference action.
Reynolds' produced the top shot-blocking performance in the LSC thus far this season and ranks as the eighth-most in NCAA DII during the 2018-19 campaign.
On a freezing night outside the gym, shooting beyond the arc didn't make anyone warmer. Both teams combined to go 4-for-35, each connecting on two treys.
MSU Texas had no answer for the quick guard play from the Lions. Chania Wright and Princess Davis led A&M-C with 17 and 12 points respectively. The duo was able to convert in transition, outscoring the Mustangs 29-9 on the fast break and 42-28 in the paint on quick layups.
Alexis Bryant neared a double-double for Jason Burton's crew, scoring 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Junior forward
Erin Alexander complimented Reynolds in the post, putting down nine points on 4-of-6 shooting with six boards while junior
Mica Schneider tacked on eight points and three assists.
With the Mustangs leading 10-6 at the 3:37 mark in the first quarter, the Lions mounted a 13-0 run to end the quarter and seemingly put the game away early. MSU Texas ended the frame on a 1-14 shooting stretch.
Outside of the slow start, the Maroon and Gold outscored the Lions in the second quarter and played A&M-C virtually even over the final three frames.
MSU Texas pulled within six on an Alexander layup with 8:23 to play in the third quarter, but would never get closer than that as the Lions expanded the lead back out to double-digits to end the contest.
