WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Annette Dukes matched a season-high 17 points to lead five Midwestern State players in double figures in an 80-46 win over Western New Mexico in Lone Star Conference play Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The junior forward from Miami, Fla. connected on 5-of-10 shots from the field, hit all but one of her eight free throw attempts and grabbed six rebounds as the Mustangs claimed their second consecutive win to improve to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in league play.
MSU Texas continued its trend of winning big as all of its victories have come by at least 16 points with average margin of 42.2 in the five wins -- all coming on the home floor.
The Mustangs scored the first seven points of the game against Western New Mexico and pushed the advantage all the to 35 point midway through the fourth period.
Midwestern State also continued the tone of great defense in victories as Western New Mexico became the fourth opponent held below the 30-percent mark hitting 27.3 percent for the game.
GAME NOTES
- Sophomore
Kityana Diaz buried a season-high two 3-pointers on her way to her second straight and sixth double figure performance of the season finishing iwth 14 points and six rebounds.
- Senior guard
Chelcie Kizart scored in double digits for the third consecutive game going 6-for-10 from the field with a 3-pointer for 13 points, while also snagging six rebounds.
- Junior forward
Liz Cathcart connected on 3-of-5 shots from the field and was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe going for 11 points and six rebounds -- her sixth game with 10-or-more points this season.
- Redshirt-freshman
Haevyn Risley notched career highs with 10 points and eight rebounds connecting on each of her four shots from the field.
- Sophomore forward
Hannah Reynolds failed to score for the first time this season, but still managed a quality 22-minute run grabbing seven rebounds and blocking three shots. It was her fourth consetuctive game with at least three blocked shots.
- Midwestern State's scoring output of 80 points was the third highest of the season behind 118 against Dallas Christian and 95 versus UT Tyler. It was the Mustangs' highest scoring output against an LSC foe since booking 80 points last season at WNMU.
