LAWTON, Okla. – Just hours after being named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore forward
Hannah Reynolds recorded her first double-double of the season with a career-best 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds and a block in Tuesday night's Red River Rivalry matchup with Cameron.
Midwestern State suffered its seventh-straight loss to the Aggies, 80-59, to drop to 5-9 on the season and 2-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
Reynolds eclipsed her previous career-high of 19 set against UT Tyler on Dec. 19, going 10-for-21 from the field. The Prosper native posted the first 20-point game for MSU Texas this season and first since
Micheline Mercelita dropped 20 against Southern Nazarene on Dec. 30, 2017 and recorded the most points by a Mustang since
Whitney Taylor scored 23 against Cameron on Jan. 17, 2017.
Natalie Halbleib and Parfitt McNair led the Aggies with 15 points apiece while Maighan Hedge added 12 points and eight assists.
The Maroon and Gold were plagued with 2-for-16 (12.5 percent) shooting from beyond the arc and failed to capitalize from the charity stripe, going 11-of-26 (42.3 percent), their lowest free throw percentage of the season.
Reynolds got the Mustangs off to a hot start with nine points, three rebounds and a block on 4-of-6 shooting in the opening quarter to keep MSU Texas within two going to the second, 18-16.
The Aggies broke the game open in the second quarter, hitting their first three shots from beyond the arc and opening with an 11-2 run. The Mustangs went just 1-for-12 from the field to allow Cameron to take a 39-25 lead into the break.
Reynolds broke a 0-for-8 start for the Mustangs from beyond the arc with a 3-pointer to start the second half, but MSU Texas never cut the deficit to single-digits after the break allowing the Aggies to coast to the victory.
