THE RUNDOWN
PUEBLO, Colo. – After showing a flair for the dramatic in the first two matches of the season, Midwestern State needed a little more magic against Colorado State-Pueblo on the road Friday.
Â
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, that magic didn't show in the second half of a 3-1 loss to the Thunderwolves at the Rawlings Sports Complex.
Â
Sophomore
Micah Wilson hit her first career goal, a free kick with two seconds remaining in the first half to even the match at one-apiece, but a pair of second half goals were too much to overcome.
Â
Kylee Sakaguchi broke the scoring seal late in the first half. With just under three minutes to go before the intermission, Sakaguchi collected a rebound from in front of the net off a mad scramble and beat keeper
Samantha Upton to stake the Thunderwolves a 1-0 lead.
Â
Cara Siegel regained the lead for CSU-Pueblo in the 61
st-minute off a rebound going inside the left post and Karley Whiteman drilled a penalty kick following a foul in the box at the 77-minute mark to stretch the lead to 3-1.
Â
CSUP keeper Rylie Martin made two saves to give the Thunderwolves the win.
