WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State moved up one spot to 10th in the latest American Football Coaches' Association Top 25 released Monday afternoon.
Senior quarterback
Layton Rabb needed six drives to pass for 273 yards and five touchdowns leading the Mustangs to a season opening 55-12 win over Humboldt State Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
MSU Texas has carried an AFCA Top 25 ranking for 37 consecutive reporting period dating back to the 2015 season.
The Mustangs are one of nine ranked teams out of Super Region Four joining No. 1 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 3 Minnesota State, No. 12 Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 14 Sioux Falls (S.D.), No. 15 Winona State (Minn.), No. 16 Central Washington, No. 24 Minnesota-Duluth and No. 25 Colorado Mesa.
Colorado School of Mines, Tarleton State, Azusa Pacific (Calif.) and Texas A&M-Kingsville are receiving votes.
Texas A&M-Commerce maintained its hold on the top spot after surviving 37-36 in double overtime against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday. The Lions received 21 first-place votes.
No. 2 West Florida received six first-place votes after beating then-No. 22 Carson-Newman (Tenn.) 19-9 last week, while No. 3 Minnesota State picked up four first-place picks after rolling Southwest Minnesota State 49-13 in the season opener.
No. 4 Indiana (Pa.) and No. 7 Harding (Ark.) received single first-place votes.
Midwestern State battles West Florida in a Top 10 matchup Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
