@MSUtxfc run streak to 32 with 3-1 win over Lubbock Christian

THE RUNDOWN
LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 4 Midwestern State matched Cal State-Dominguez Hills for the eighth longest unbeaten streak in NCAA Division II history with a 3-1 win on the road Saturday afternoon at Lubbock Christian.

After allowing two goals in their last five games, the Mustangs exposed the Chaps for three scores to improve to 8-0-1 on the year.

Ahead 1-0 in the second half, the Mustangs scored a pair of goals in a two minute stretch to put the game on ice.

Sophomore Carlos Flores got the scoring started in the 28th minute. Junior midfielder Ross Fitzpatrick found the Arlington native on a through-ball inside the six-yard box to break the scoring seal.

After mustering just five shots in the opening 45 minutes, MSU Texas tripled its total output in the game with a 10-shot outburst in the second half.

In the 54th minute, junior Juan Ramirez picked up junior Dylan Burke with a cross. Ramirez tapped the ball inside the post from six yards out to double the lead.

Just 125 seconds later, the Maroon and Gold were celebrating again when Sergio Lara scored his third goal of the year. Following a corner kick from Ramirez, Lara won the scrum in the box to beat Chaps keeper Braxton Thorne and push the advantage to 3-0.

A goal in the 84th minute by LCU's Tariq Bakkali broke up the Mustangs bid for their second-straight clean sheet.
