FIRST SERVE: After claiming its first Lone Star Conference regular season championship since 2006, No. 16-ranked Midwestern State has its eyes on another conference title this weekend at the Lone Star Conference Championships. The Mustangs (18-5, 3-0 LSC) open up the tournament against Western New Mexico on Friday at the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.

Should the Mustangs win, they would take on the Cameron/UT Permian Basin winner in the championship match at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

CHAMPIONSHIP BACKGROUND: MSU has claimed the conference tournament on three occasions, most recently in 2013. The Maroon and Gold have advanced to the finals eight times, including last year. The Mustangs were without a conference from 2014—16.

VICTORIOUS VAS: Senior
Vasudev Vijayaraman has posted a 14-9 record on the season, all at the No. 1 flight. The Chennai, India, native leads the team with six wins on the year against nationally-ranked foes.

GUARDIAN ANGEL: Sophomore
Angel Palacios posted the second-longest winning streak in program history, winning 15-straight from Feb. 16-March 30. Over that stretch, the sophomore was only pushed to three sets twice before suffering his first D2 loss of the season to Southeastern's Sandro Lena. Between singles and doubles, Palacios owns a combined 38-6 record on the season while his career .696 winning percentage in singles ranks ninth all-time.

FRESHMAN TRIO: Freshman
Alex Martinez Roca (17-4),
Nolan McCaig (15-5) and
Jean Muniz (13-5) combine for 45 wins at the No. 4-6 flights. Primarily playing No. 4, McCaig owns a 9-4 record at No. 4 while Muniz sits at 9-1 at No. 5. Roca has built a perfect 9-0 mark at No. 6.

DOMINATING DOUBLES: The Mustangs have been dominant in doubles all season. Of the 21 matches played, MSU has picked up at least two wins in 17 matches, including sweeping the doubles competition on 10 occasions. The tandem of
Alex Martinez Roca and
Angel Palacios lead the squad with a 19-1 record, riding a 13-match winning streak.
