Midwestern State speeds past Texas Woman's, 4-3

THE RUNDOWN
DENTON, Texas – Midwestern State stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to hang on for a 4-3 win over Texas Woman's on Sunday in Denton.

The Mustangs improvesto 15-20 on the year and 9-18 in Lone Star Conference play taking two of three from the Pioneers.

Senior catcher Amanda Thomas logged a 2-for-3 day at the plate and scored a run, while junior first baseman Samantha Loos blasted her seventh long ball of the season on a two-run blast over the left-center field fence.

Junior starting pitcher Abbie Lancaster improved to 5-7 in the circle scattering five hits and five walks to allow three runs while striking out six. MSU's all-time saves leader stranded eight runners on-base, including the bases-loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

The Mustangs broke the scoring seal in the top of the third. Senior third baseman Taylor Brintzenhoff went the other way, spraying a single through the right-side of the infield to open the frame. With one out, sophomore outfielder Tucker Caraway raced around the bags for a triple on a shot to left-center, easily scoring Brintzenhoff from first.

TWU answered with a pair of runs of its own in the bottom of the frame. Avery Williams was hit by Lancaster's first offering with one out before a groundout moved the tying run into scoring position. Tylia Sylestine poked a double down the left field line that sophomore outfielder Kelsey Eropkin was unable to catch on a dive. Hazel Puempel added a second run for the Pioneers on a single to center, 2-1.

MSU regained the lead in the fourth. Thomas lifted a single to left to start the frame. Junior first baseman Samantha Loos launched her seventh homer of the season to put the Mustangs back on top, 3-2.

Caraway worked an eight-pitch walk in the top of the fifth and scored on sophomore outfielder Lauren Lindgren's triple off the right-field wall pushing the lead to 4-2.

The Pioneers loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh before Lancaster got Sylestine to line out to third and Puempel to pop up to shallow right.

TWU's Jordan Kisselburg followed with an RBI single up the middle to pull the Pioneers within a run, but Brintzenhoff fielded Lindy Kennedy's grounder cleanly to close out Mustangs' third LSC series win of the season.
