WICHITA FALLS – No. 12 Midwestern State claimed its first Lone Star Conference victory of the season, taking down Angelo State, 7-2, on Friday at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
The Mustangs raced out to a 3-0 lead with quick wins in doubles. The tandem of Daria Panferova and Maddie Rowe cruised to their first victory in their first match together, defeating Yasmine Ansari and Virginie Becht, 8-1, at No. 3. MSU's pair of Maddy Coffman and Ashley Ramirez followed with an easy 8-2 win over Ena Ovcina and Maria Delgadillo, 8-2, to improve to 3-1 on the year before Bianca Duff and Greta Lazzarotto knocked off Lucie Maitrot and Zoe Gubbels, 8-5, at the No. 2 line.
 
In singles, the Maroon and bounced back after dropping four-of-six first sets to ASU. Duff rolled through Delgadillo, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 line to push the lead to 4-0, but the Rambelles got on the board with back-to-back wins at the No. 5 and No. 4 lines to cut the score to 4-2. Sophomore Anna Claire Gerletti fell to Becht, 6-2, 6-1 before Lazzarotto dropped a pair of tight sets to Gubbels, 6-4, 6-3.
 
Ramirez clinched the win for the Mustangs, fending off Ansari, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3. Coffman tallied her fifth-straight win, improving to 5-1 after defeating Ovcina, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Emilija Segetlija closed out the match for MSU, winning 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 over Maitrot at No. 6.
