WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
THOMPSON COMES UP CLUTCH: Senior third baseman
Kelcee Thompson paced the offense, hitting .429 with a double, home run and two RBI. Against Chadron State, the Springdale, Ark., native scored the game-tying run following a double in the seventh, prior to the Mustangs taking the lead. In MSU's 5-2 win over Emporia State, Thompson blasted a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Maroon and Gold the lead and scored the go-ahead run in the tournament finale.

ADAMS FAMILY: Junior pitcher
Riley Adams picked up a pair of wins behind dominant pitching performances. The Roseville, Calif., native scattered three hits and a walk over the final five innings after the Mustangs fell behind 3-0 to keep Chadron State off the board and MSU to rally. Making her first start against Emporia State, Adams tossed six, two-hit innings and retired 10-straight before exiting in the seventh.

SCOUTING THE BISON: Oklahoma Baptist enters the weekend with a 1-3 record after travelling to the Southeastern Regional Invitational on the opening weekend. Freshman infielder Dani Manning got a strong start to her collegiate career, hitting .500 with five runs, three doubles, two RBI and a homer. In the circle, freshman Katie Long has made a pair of starts for the Bison, posting a 1.40 ERA over 10.0 innings.

SCOUTING THE JETS: Newman enters the weekend with a 1-4 record after competing in the Southeastern Regional Invitational on opening weekend. Freshman infielder Bailey Bugner hit .385 at the tournament with a double and four RBI. In the circle, junior Chantel Purcella has tossed a pair of complete games and holds a 0-2 record, despite a 1.62 ERA with a 14:4 strikeout to walk ratio.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS: Colorado Christian brings a 4-1 record to the North Texas Softball Bash after a strong performance at the Desert Stinger tournament in Las Vegas. Junior catcher Shelby Fusich powered the Cougars' offense, hitting .368 with three runs, two homers, a triple and 10 RBI. Junior Kenzie Mattey brings a 4-0 record and a 1.81 ERA over 19.1 innings, holding opponents to a .188 average.

SCOUTING THE RANGERS: Northwestern Oklahoma State opens the season at the North Texas Softball Bash after an 18-38 campaign in 2017. Senior infielder Brittany Corrales headlines the offense, hitting .302 over 55 games a year ago. Pitchers Madison Garza (9-17, 4.95 ERA) and Karly Murray (8-19, 5.09 ERA) made a combined 55 starts last season for the Rangers.

SCOUTING THE LADY CHAPS: Lubbock Christian and MSU meet for the second-time this season after the Mustangs handed the Lady Chaps their lone loss of the season last weekend. Junior infielder Morgan Dufour has been the primary offensive supply for LCU with six of her seven hits going for extra bases and four homers, hitting .438 through five games. Junior pitcher Monique Francois tossed a pair of complete games during the opening tournament, earning a pair of wins and a 2.00 ERA.
