Kizart scores season-high 17 in loss to Henderson State, 76-69

THE RUNDOWN
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Senior guard Chelcie Kizart matched a career-high with 17 points in Midwestern State's 76-69 loss to Henderson State on Saturday at the Duke Wells Center. The Mustangs move to 3-6 on the season after the setback.

Kizart matched her previous season best set against Dallas Christian. The St. Paul, Minn., native went 7-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc with two rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Sophomore Hannah Reynolds added 11 points, five rebounds, an assist and a block. The Prosper native posted her sixth game in double figures.

After her 12-assist performance against UT Tyler, junior Mica Schneider scored nine points and matched a career-best with three steals.

Junior Erin Alexander led the Mustangs to a 39-32 advantage on the glass with seven rebounds.

Pink Jones, Blu Jones and Brittany Branum all scored 15 points for the Reddies. Hailey Estes added 12 for HSU as that quartet netted 57 of the team's 76 points.

MSU Texas raced out to a 19-15 lead after the first quarter, with a 13-0 advantage in fastbreak points.

The Mustangs began to cool off in the second quarter while the Reddies found their rhythm. MSU Texas shot just 31.1 percent in the second frame while HSU went 7-of-14 from the floor.

HSU continued to build early in the second half. After a Courtney Kerr jumper in the paint opened the half, the Reddies strung together a 7-0 run before pushing the lead to 10 going to the fourth quarter.

The Maroon and Gold chipped into the lead, pulling within one point, down 61-57 with 5:13 to play. HSU's Blu Jones buried a 3-pointer on the next possession to push the lead back to four. After a Kizart layup closed the gap to two, the Reddies stretched the advantage back to eight before closing out the contest.
