@MSUWSoc earns berth in @LoneStarConf Tournament

THE RUNDOWN
DENTON, Texas – A flurry of second half goals earned Midwestern State a berth in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. The Mustangs netted a trio of goals after a scoreless first half in a 3-3 draw with Texas Woman's on Sunday in Denton.

MSU Texas makes a return trip to Denton on Wednesday, Oct. 31, to take on the Pioneers in a quarterfinals rubber match between the squads. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on the campus of TWU.

Freshman Emma Baley recorded her fourth and fifth assists of the season in her first multi-assist game of the season. Sophomore Madison Williams added a goal and an assist for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs survived 14 shots and six corner kicks in the first half to enter the intermission scoreless.

After 163 minutes with neither side finding the net, Williams broke through in the 53rd minute. Baley served the ball to Williams in the box, who then tapped it in around TWU keeper Jazmine Maxwell to stake the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers responded five minutes later to even the game. Allie Chapman collected a rebound in front of the frame and finished in the upper-90.

MSU Texas added a pair of goals in a three-minute stretch to take a 3-1 lead. Sophomore Kelly Cannistra picked up Williams' pass from inside the six-yard box in the 63rd minute before sophomore Micah Wilson headed home Baley's corner kick in the 66th minute.

Following a goal from Hannah Schneider, TWU again pulled even in the 89th minute. Libby Murphy found Haley Ward in a mob in front of the goal. Ward caught Upton too far off her mark to net the equalizer.

In the first overtime, Heather Vanderloo's shot with 30 seconds remaining proved to be the only scoring opportunity for the Maroon and Gold. The Cibolo native fired from the left wing, but the ball was caught by Maxwell to keep the game even at three.

Neither side was able to put a shot on frame in the final 10 minutes. The Pioneers logged two attempts early in the period, but neither found its mark.
