The Mustangs hit a match-best .333 in the opening set paced by Bettis' four kills and .444 attacking percentage to post a 25-17 first set victory. Midwestern State (7-5, 2-2 LSC) used a 10-2 run early in the frame capped off by a Bettis kill and Richburg ace to take a 12-4 advantage and force an Eastern New Mexico (4-9, 2-2 LSC) timeout.
The Greyhounds slowly crept closer, using a 3-0 spurt to pull within three at 17-14. However, the Mustangs answered back following a timeout with a 4-0 run to regain the momentum and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, the Mustangs jumped out to a 5-2 lead before ENMU responded with a 5-0 run to pull in front. Neither team was able to gain more than a three-point advantage the rest of the way with Bettis tallying a pair of kills to give MSU a 23-20 edge. After the Greyhounds evened up the game and fended off one set point, an ENMU attacking error and a Bettis kill propelled MSU to a 2-0 lead with a 26-24 win.
Midwestern limited the Greyhounds to a .075 hitting percentage in the third frame while hitting .250 to close out the match. The Mustangs put together a 9-4 run midway through the set with four different Mustangs posting two kills to force an Eastern timeout. The Greyhounds pulled even at 16-all following an ace by Marissa Ellis, but MSU answered with a 7-3 run before collecting a 25-21 victory.
