Powell pushes @MustangsWSoccer to 1-0 win over Regis in season opener

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Raven Powell's first career goal in the 40th minute propelled Midwestern State to a 1-0 shutout victory over Regis (Colo.) in the season opener Friday evening at Stang Park.

After being limited to just one shot through the first 39-plus minutes of the first half, Powell's attempt at the 39:29 mark gave Midwestern State (1-0) its first score of the season and proved to be the eventual game winner. A free kick by Sarah Stewart found Destinee Williamson on the left side before a pass into the center of the box set up Powell for the strike and a 1-0 MSU lead.

Regis (0-1) put pressure on the Midwestern State back line throughout the contest with seven shots on goal in 12 attempts compared to MSU's three shots. However, the Mustangs held strong with keeper Courtney Burnette collecting all seven shots that were fired between the posts to extend upon her school shutout record with her 24th clean sheet.
