Mustangs send seniors out in style with 7-2 win in home finale

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State closed out its regular season home slate in style Saturday morning with a 7-2 win over No. 39 Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) on Senior Day at the MSU Tennis Center.

Prior to the match, the MSU men's tennis program recognized seniors Ramon Toyos and Chris Norrie, who have combined for 207 career dual wins in their four years donning the Maroon and Gold while finishing as one of just two senior classes to place two players in the top 15 in career wins.

The 21st-ranked Mustangs (12-6) earned their sixth-straight win over a Division II opponent, opening the day with a doubles sweep.

The duo of Toyos and Dillon Pineda gave Midwestern State an early advantage with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles to improve to 8-2 on the season. Dylan Hall and Angel Palacios followed on court two with an 8-2 rout for their eighth win of the season before Chris and Denney Norrie capped off the sweep with a come-from-behind 8-6 victory at No. 3.

It didn't take long before MSU clinched the match in singles play with 9th-ranked Toyos extending the Mustangs lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over the Central Region's No. 7 Lennart Lonnemann at the top position. With his 117th career dual victory, Toyos moved into a tie for seventh on the all-time wins list alongside Brian Holcomb (1997-2000). Palacios recorded the clincher soon after following a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Luis Chab on court two.

Norrie also finished with an undefeated record on the day with a 6-2, 6-1 result at No. 5 singles over Nair Adi for his 90th career win.

Trailing 6-0, Ouachita Baptist (4-10) went on the board with a super tiebreaker win at line six with Andre Stefano defeating Daniel Gallivoda, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.

Pineda earned MSU's seventh point of the match at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Dan Kaplun before Juan Moncada closed out the match for the Tigers by pulling out a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 victory over Hall at No. 3.

Midwestern State wraps up the regular season with a five-match road swing beginning Tuesday with a 2 p.m. contest against No. 25 Cameron at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex in Lawton, Okla.
