SAN ANGELO, Texas – Brandy Marlett struck out 11 while allowing just two hits to lead No. 2 Angelo State to an 8-0 run rule of Midwestern State in five innings in the series opener Friday evening at Mayer Field.
Angelo State (39-4, 16-3 LSC) opened up with a four-run first inning on five hits. Kenedy Urbany recorded the first hit for the Rambelles with a double to center field before coming home to score on a wild pitch with two outs for a 1-0 ASU lead. Taegan Kirk followed with an RBI single to right before Alexis Evans plated a pair with a single to center for a 4-0 lead after one.
Marlett allowed one hit apiece in the first and third innings with
Erin Knox and
Lauren Lindgren recording singles through the right side for Midwestern State (17-21, 8-14 LSC).
The Rambelles added three runs in the fourth to stretch their lead to 7-0. Kirk drove in her second run of the game with a single to center while ASU scored an additional two runs on two MSU errors on the same play for the 7-0 advantage.
An error and an Urbany double put the run rule in effect in the fifth with Madison Greenwell coming home to score for an 8-0 final.
