WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State earned its first season sweep in Lone Star Conference play Saturday afternoon following an 8-1 win over Western New Mexico in the series finale at Mustangs Park.
Midwestern State (17-20, 8-13 LSC) scored eight unanswered runs, beginning with a three-run home run by
Lauren Lindgren in the second inning to give MSU a 3-1 advantage.
MSU added a run in the third on an RBI single to right field by
Misty Muniz to score
Taylor Mordecai who recorded a one-out double earlier in the frame.
Midwestern added a pair of runs in the fourth with
Erin Knox plating two on a double to left center following a Lindgren single and a walk for
Taylor Bermudes for a 6-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, an RBI bunt single for
Jennifer Quintero and an error scored Muniz who led off the inning with a walk. MSU rounded out its scoring with a sacrifice fly by
Carli Woolsey in the sixth to plate Mordecai.
Western New Mexico (1-34, 0-18 LSC) plated its lone run of the game in the first on an RBI single by Ariana Maldonado to score Linzy Granger.
