Mustangs tally pair of ranked wins Saturday in Oklahoma

SHAWNEE, Okla. - No. 21 Midwestern State claimed two victories over top-50 teams Saturday at the Oklahoma Baptist Tennis Courts.

Midwestern State (9-5) rolled to a 7-2 win over No. 46 Oklahoma Baptist in the first of two matches Saturday. Senior Ramon Toyos and sophomore Dillon Pineda posted an 8-2 victory over Luis Romero and Thomas Ackerknecht at number one doubles before sophomore Dylan Hall and freshman Angel Palacios recorded an 8-2 score over Lucas Castelo Branco and Gianluca Galdi on court two.

The Bison (11-5) avoided the doubles sweep with Babji Atturu and Matias Le Fort handing senior Chris Norrie and sophomore Denney Norrie an 8-4 loss at No. 3.

In singles play, Midwestern added another point to the board with Palacios' 6-2, 6-3 win over Castelo Branco at the number two position. Junior Vasudev Vijayaraman grinded out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Romero at No. 3 to push Midwestern's lead to 4-1.

No. 9 Toyos clinched the match at number one with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Andrusch.

On court four, Hall outlasted Le Fort with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 score just before Pineda claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Ackerknecht.

Oklahoma Baptist claimed its only singles point of the day at No. 5 as Galdi defeated Chris Norrie, 6-4, 6-3.

The Mustangs continued their winning ways with a decisive 8-1 win over No. 43 Newman in the nightcap.

Midwestern started the match with a 3-0 doubles sweep behind Toyos and Pineda's 8-2 takedown of Eduardo Dos Santos and Ajani King on court one.

Hall led the way in singles play, downing Blake Crawford a 6-1, 6-0 at the number four position before Palacios clinched the match for Midwestern recording a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Felipe Batistella at No. 2.

The Jets' (8-4) lone point came from the number one singles spot as 27th-ranked Dos Santos fought his way to a 7-6, 6-7, 10-6 victory over Toyos.

The Mustangs return to action at the MSU Tennis Center Friday against regional rival No. 30 St. Edward's. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
