PENSACOLA, Fla. – Midwestern State pushed No. 7 West Florida to the edge Friday afternoon but dropped a trio of three-set matches in a 6-3 loss to the Argonauts at the Ralph Carson Tennis Complex.

West Florida (10-5) began the day by claiming two of three doubles matches with victories at No. 1 and 3 to take the advantage heading into singles play.

Midwestern State (6-3) earned an 8-6 win at the number two doubles spot to even up the match at 1-1 with sophomore Maddy Coffman and freshman Bianca Duff winning their ninth-straight match of the season over Jordana Lujan and Heather Mixon.

In singles, Lujan quickly added another point to West Florida's tally with a 6-0, 6-1 score over junior Amy Clifton at No. 2 to push the UWF lead to 3-1.

At No. 5, Coffman recorded her second point of the day with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Valeria Mantilla for a 3-2 match.

No. 41 Paula Lopez answered back gutting out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 decision over junior Daria Panferova on court one before Mixon clinched the match for the Argos on court four outlasting Duff, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Sophomore Eirini Kontaki added the third point of the day for the Mustangs on court three with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 decision over Diana Vlad for her sixth-straight victory.

At No. 6 singles, Samantha Echevarria pulled out a 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory over sophomore Greta Lazzarotto to conclude the match.

The Mustangs are back in action Saturday as they take on No. 19 Georgia College at 10:30 a.m. at the Ralph Carson Tennis Complex.
