Mustangs cruise to 7-2 win over Stallions in Georgia

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Midwestern State earned its first win of its annual spring break trip Thursday with a 7-2 victory over Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) at the Valdosta State Tennis Courts.

The 15th-ranked Mustangs began the day by taking two of three doubles matches for a 2-1 advantage. Ramon Toyos and Dillon Pineda paired up for the first time this season for an 8-2 win at No. 1 while Dylan Hall and Angel Palacios also competed together in their first match at No. 2 to post an 8-4 victory.

Abraham Baldwin (4-8), ranked fourth in the NJCAA poll, avoided the sweep on court three with Vitor Paulino and Harry Benham defeating Chris and Denney Norrie, 8-6.

Midwestern State (5-4) claimed five of six singles matches with four straight-set victories in the win. Pineda started the Mustangs off with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at No. 6 singles for his first victory of the year to give MSU a 3-1 lead.

The Stallions answered back with Yohan Nguyen defeating Palacios at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-1, for ABAC's second point of the match.

The Maroon and Gold dominated the remainder of the afternoon with Vasudev Vijayaraman and Chris Norrie tallying straight-set victories to help the Mustangs clinch the match. Also earning singles wins for MSU were Toyos and Hall.

Midwestern State takes on its second top-10 opponent in three days tomorrow with a 1 p.m. matchup against No. 9 West Florida at the Ralph Carson Tennis Complex in Pensacola, Fla.
