VALDOSTA, Ga. – No. 14 Valdosta State (Ga.) pulled out a pair of three-set wins on courts one and four to prevail against a feisty Midwestern State squad in a 6-3 win Wednesday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts.

Sophomore Greta Lazzarotto earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 decision at No. 5 singles to bring the 21st-ranked Mustangs to within 4-3 in the match. Valdosta State (6-5) then posted a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the top position with the 17th-ranked Bea Morales Hernandez defeating junior Daria Panferova to clinch the match for the Lady Blazers.

Sabrina Schmidt closed out the match for VSU at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over sophomore Maddy Coffman for a 6-3 final.

Sophomore Eirini Kontaki began singles play for the Mustangs with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Laura Ubeda at No. 3 to even the match for Midwestern State (5-2) at 2-2.

The Lady Blazers opened up by taking two of three doubles matches with wins at No. 1 and 3. The duo of Coffman and freshman Bianca Duff continued their undefeated run with an 8-3 thumping of Anja Coksa and Daniela Barta on court two to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The Mustangs return to action tomorrow for a neutral matchup against NJCAA Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) at the VSU Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for noon (CST).
