MSU ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT CENTRAL PAGE
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State continues its homestand this weekend as the Mustangs play host to the three-day MSU Round Robin at Mustangs Park and the Sunrise Optimist Complex.
The MSU Round Robin will include 15 games, 11 being played at Mustangs Park Friday through Sunday. Midwestern State will be joined by Colorado School of Mines, Missouri S&T, Newman (Kan.), Southwest Baptist (Mo.) and Southwestern Oklahoma.
The Mustangs begin action Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Colorado School of Mines before taking on Southwestern Oklahoma in the nightcap at 7:30 at Mustangs Park. Midwestern begins the day Saturday against Newman at noon while also facing off against Southwest Baptist at 7:30 p.m. MSU concludes the tournament Sunday at noon versus Missouri S&T before facing Southwest Baptist a second time at 2:30 p.m. in the finale.
A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State comes into the weekend with a 3-5 record on the season following a doubleheader sweep over Oklahoma Panhandle State Wednesday at Mustangs Park
- Senior pitcher/first baseman
Erin Knox leads the Mustangs with a .500 batting average in six appearances this season, sporting a team-best .619 on base percentage
- Sophomore outfielder
Carli Woolsey has been a consistent contributor to the Mustangs offense through the first eight games, hitting .462 with a team-high 12 hits, 10 RBI and four home runs
- Junior third baseman Kelsey Thompson is batting .273 with six hits on the season while freshman center fielder
Lauren Lindgren is hitting .261 with a team-high six runs and six walks with a pair of home runs

Peyton Helton is carrying a 3.94 ERA and 1-1 record with 10 strikeouts in 16.0 innings of work and three starts
- Know has thrown a team-high 21.0 innings with two complete games and a shutout for a 4.33 ERA and 1-2 record
SCOUTING THE OREDIGGERS
- Colorado School of Mines will open its 2017 season Friday in Wichita Falls following a 20-24 campaign in 2016
- The Orediggers return their entire starting lineup from a season ago including five all-RMAC selections in junior pitcher Hallie Smith, senior outfielder Paige Noehring, junior outfielder Sonoma Toot, junior infielder Brielle Asato and sophomore outfielder Dani Valerio
- Asato paced the Orediggers with a .390 batting average last season while Noehring finished with a .358 clip
- In the circle, Smith compiled a 3.24 ERA with four shutouts, fanning 123 batters in 172.2 innings of work
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Southwestern Oklahoma is 2-4 after six games at the season-opening Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational last weekend in Durant
- Freshman infielder Paige Bowler led the Bulldogs last week with a .545 average with six hits in 11 plate appearances while also registering four walks
- Senior outfielder Tori Hawk also put together a strong start to her season with a .400 clip with a team-best six runs and four RBI
- Senior Taya Haney saw nearly half the time in the circle for the Bulldogs last weekend with 17.2 innings, recording a 4.75 ERA and 1-1 record
- Freshman Katylin Donaldson posted a team-best 1.83 ERA with a complete game victory over Central Missouri, seeing 7.2 innings on the weekend
SCOUTING THE JETS
- Newman went 2-4 last weekend at the Southern Arkansas Invitational
- Sophomore catcher Bayley Horsch and junior outfielder Delaney Hiegert each posted a .333 batting average to lead the Jets with Horsch registering a team-high five runs, five walks and four hit by pitches
- Junior outfielder Taylor Mannis led Newman with seven hits, five runs and four RBI for a .304 batting clip
- Senior hurler Jensen Cromer posted a 3.23 ERA with two complete games to lead the Jets pitching staff
SCOUTING THE BEARCATS
- Southwest Baptist will also open its 2017 season this weekend following a 24-35 record in 2016
- The Bearcats return three all-MIAA selections from a season ago in senior outfielder Catlin Evans, senior catcher Dana Graves and senior pitcher Kacey Ayers
- Graves ranked second for SBU in hitting last season with a .326 average and a team-high 47 RBI, 10 doubles and nine home runs
- Evans made starts in all 59 contests for the Bearcats, hitting .311 and going 16-of-17 on the base paths
- Ayers posted a 2.67 ERA last season with 30 complete games in 43 appearances
SCOUTING THE LADY MINERS
- Missouri S&T began the season 0-2 following a doubleheader loss to Harding (Ark.) on the road last weekend
- Sophomore outfielder Carley Hamann led the Miners with a .571 batting average with four hits while freshman infielder Jacey Allen hit .333 with a team-high four RBI with a double and a home run
- In the circle, junior Kati Viets posted a 7.00 ERA in 6.0 innings of action
LOOKING AHEAD
- Midwestern State remains at Mustangs Park next weekend to host UT Permian Basin in its Lone Star Conference opening series
- The teams square off in a doubleheader Friday beginning at 4 p.m. while concluding the series Saturday with a single game at 1 p.m.
