FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 15 Midwestern State fell in its season opener to NCAA Division I TCU Tuesday evening by a score of 6-1 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 23rd-ranked Horned Frogs took an early 1-0 lead after doubles play following a pair of 6-2 victories at courts one and two. The duo of Chris Norrie and Vasudev Vijayaraman came up just short of a win at No. 3 doubles with a 7-6 (4) defeat to Jerry Lopez and Gianni Mancini.

Midwestern State evened the match at 1-1 with Dylan Hall earning a win by default at line 6. Guillermo Nuñez propelled TCU back in front with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Angel Palacios at No. 3 before Lopez followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Norrie on court two. Hudson Blake clinched the match for the Horned Frogs at No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Vijayaraman.

At No. 1, Alex Rybakov defeated Ramon Toyos, 6-4, 6-2, while Joshua Sundaram went to a super tiebreaker on court four before falling 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 to Mancini. 

Midwestern State plays host to Nebraska-Kearney in its home opener Friday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Center. Admission is free to the match.
