  • Midwestern State takes on Southwestern Assemblies of God in its home opener Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
  • The Mustangs have won their last eight home openers dating back to an 88-83 loss to Dallas Baptist to start the 2008-09 season. The next game MSU started a 42-game home winning streak which ran into the 2010-11 season.
  • The Mustangs have won 21 of the last 22 home openers dating back to the 1995-96 season.
  • Midwestern State has won its last 10 games against non-NCAA Division I or II opponents and 58 of the last 59 going back to the 1997-98. The only loss during that time came to Oklahoma Wesleyan (80-74) on Jan. 1, 2014 under the dome. MSU is 63-3 overall against non-NCAA DI/DII oppositions since joining NCAA Division II in for the 1996-97 season. That includes a 50-1 run at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
  • The Mustangs snapped a 0-3 start with a 123-121 double overtime win over Western State (Colo.) Saturday at Paul Wright Gym in Gunnison. It was the first time MSU started a season with three-straight losses since going 0-4 to begin the 1990-91 campaign.
  • MSU's 123-121 double overtime win was its first multiple-OT game since beating Lynn (Fla.) – 90-83 – on Dec. 15, 2014 in Boca Raton.
  • The 123 points were the most scored by an MSU team since the Mustangs needed four OTs to beat Emporia State (Kan.) – 127-124 – on Dec. 20, 2007 at Ligon Coliseum. The game featured a ¾-court pass off of the backboard from current MSU assistant women's coach Christopher Reay to Trajinski Grigsby.
  • Senior guard Brandon Neel erupted for a career-high 30 points on 12-of-21 shooting in Saturday's 123-121 overtime win at Western State. He averaged 28 points and eight rebounds during the Western's Comfort Inn Classic after going for a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds Friday versus Colorado Mesa.
  • Neel ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference averaging 19 points per game behind Tarleton State's Corinthian Ramsey (26.3 ppg), West Texas A&M's David Chavlovich (24.8 ppg), UT Permian Basin's James McPherson (21.8 ppg) and Daeshon Francis (21.8 ppg) and Western New Mexico's Willie McCray (20.3 ppg).
  • Sophomore guard Logan Hicks ranks second on the team notch four consecutive double-figure performances. He had a season-high 19 points in the opener against Arkansas-Fort Smith. He is shooting 54.1 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from the arc (10-for-21).
  • Senior guard Trey Kennedy splashed in a season-best 25 points on 11-of-25 shooting against Western State. He has scored 10-or-more points in each of his last three games.
  • Seniors Devante Pullum (6.3 ppg, 3.2 apg) and Nick Powell (8.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg) are off to solid starts this season.
  • Senior forward Josh Huntley scored a season-best 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in his first start Saturday against Western State.
  • Midwestern State and Southwestern Assemblies of God (out of Waxahachie, Texas) meet for the fifth time on the hardwood Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
  • The Mustangs have won each of the previous meetings by an average of 37.8 points a game which includes a narrow 72-64 MSU win on Nov. 1, 2012.
  • The Lions are off to a 5-0 start this season and are averaging 106.4 points per game. SAGU has topped the century mark in every game.
  • Southwester Assemblies of God boasts six players averaging in double figures including freshman guard Cameron Hill (14.8 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 apg), sophomore forward lance Tipton (12.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg), freshman guard Cody Farmer (11.7 ppg), freshman guard Joshua Kashila (10.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and sophomore guard Dareny Sims (10.6, 4.8 rpg).
  • The Lions, who play in the NAIA's Sooner Athletic Conference, are under the direction of first-year coach Delton Deal.
