SAN ANGELO, Texas – Midwestern State was held to its second lowest hitting percentage of the season at .053 Friday night in a 3-0 defeat to No. 16 Angelo State at the Junell Center.
Tulani Titley powered Angelo State (12-4, 4-3 LSC) to a 25-19 first set victory with a team-high four kills as the Rambelles hit .344 as a team in the opening frame. The Mustangs hung close to ASU for a majority of the set, trimming a six-point deficit in half following a kill from
Meghan Bettis to pull Midwestern State (8-8, 3-5 LSC) within three at 21-18. However, ASU scored the final three points of the game to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Brianna Sotello and Morgan Seaton combined for nine of ASU's 14 kills in the second set while limiting the Mustangs to a .026 attacking clip in a 25-19 decision. After trailing by five midway through the game, the Mustangs inched back to within a point following a 4-1 run. The Rambelles stretched their lead back out at 20-15 to force an MSU timeout before claiming the final three points once again for a 2-0 advantage.
Sotello's six kills paced the Rambelles to a Friday sweep with a 25-16 third set win. The Mustangs offense suffered in the third set, being held to a .024 hitting percentage. ASU pulled away early in the set behind the serve of Sotello before recording its largest lead on the final point with Micheala Sifuentes finishing off the match with a kill for ASU.
