2017 Hall of Honor: Cobb expanded natural ability to reach potential

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Dr. Gerald Stockton never had a doubt in Ricky Cobb's overwhelming potential on the basketball court.

"As a freshman from Wichita Falls High School, Ricky is beginning an extremely fine career in university basketball," the legendary coach said going into the 1980-81 campaign. "He can score from anywhere from up to 18 feet. Cobb has the size and weight to become a real offensive threat by midseason. If he realizes the natural ability he has and is motivated to become great, he will be."

Cobb, who became one of MSU's greats scoring 1,456 points and grabbing 827 rebounds in his four seasons as an Indian, is set for induction prior to halftime Homecoming festivities during MSU's football game against West Texas A&M Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

He enters the Hall of Honor posthumously as he passed away in August of 1999 leaving behind his wife, Martha, and two sons -- Tyler and Tanner.

The Midwestern State Athletic Hall of Honor represents the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the MSU Department of Athletics.
