Bettis, Eakin set season highs in @MWSUVball's 3-1 win over LCU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior Meghan Bettis racked up 19 kills and Sarah Eakin headed a strong net game with nine total blocks as both set season highs to lift Midwestern State to a 3-1 win over Lubbock Christian in non-conference play Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
The Mustangs, who snapped a three-match skid to even their overall record at 9-9, returns to Lone Star Conference play Saturday afternoon at Texas A&M-Kingsville. First serve from Steinke Center is set for 2 p.m.
 
Bettis put down six of her match-high 19 kills in the opening set allowing the Mustangs to jump out to 14-7 edge, but Lubbock Christian peeled off a 12-2 run eventually taking a 21-17 lead on a bad set by MSU's Kristan Aduddell.
 
Aduddell quickly made up for the miscue keying a 5-0 spurt at the service line as MSU regained the edge before closing out the frame on back-to-back kills by Bettis and Rockelle Gholson.
 
Midwestern rallied from a seven-point deficit in the second set, but Lubbock Christian was able to hold the Mustangs claiming consecutive points at 24-all on a kill by Channing Stewart and a Brynn Warnack service ace.
 
The Mustangs hit .215 over the final two sets winning by counts of 25-18 and 25-13.
 
Senior middle blocker Addison Semer added 10 kills and five blocks, while freshman Raven Presley hit an efficient .643 putting down nine kills in 14 attempts without an error to go along with five blocks.
 
Senior Aerielle Edwards paced backrow efforts with 22 kills, while Leah Lychock and Kristin Silva posted 10 each.
 
Aduddell closed the match with 51 set assists, 15 digs and three service aces.
 
Stewart and Emily Hanaway had 10 kills each to lead Lubbock Christian, which fell to 6-13 on the season.
 
NOTES
- Midwestern State improved to 6-3 against non-conference foes this season.
- The Mustangs have accounted for 25 team blocks over the last two matches after notching 12 against Lubbock Christian. It was MSU's fifth match this season with at least 10 blocks.
- MSU posted a season-high 76 digs against Lubbock Christian including 22 from senior Aerielle Edwards. It was Edwards' fourth 20-dig performance of the season.
- Sophomore Sarah Eakin posted a season-best nine total blocks including a pair of solo stuffs. She is averaging 1.73 blocks per set through the last three matches which includes 5-block efforts against nationally ranked Angelo State and Tarleton State.
- Senior Meghan Bettis put down a campaign-best 19 kills on a season-high 49 swings.
- Senior setter Kristan Aduddell notched her third double-double of the season with 51 assists and 15 digs. It was her fourth 50-set assist effort of the year.
- Senior defensive specialist Leah Lychock also posted a season high with 10 digs, while junior Kristin Silva notched her third double-figure dig effort of the season with 10.
- Freshman Raven Presley hit a season high .643 making nine kills without an error in 14 attempts.
