THE RUNDOWN
SILVER CITY, N.M. – Western New Mexico hit .338 to record a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-12, 25-21) over Midwestern State in the first-ever Lone Star Conference meeting between the two teams Saturday afternoon at Drag's Court.
Western New Mexico (10-4, 2-1 LSC) posted a .407 hitting percentage in the opening set to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the match. WNMU claimed an early six-point lead on Midwestern State (7-6, 3-2 LSC) before the Mustangs pulled back within one to force a WNMU timeout. The Mustangs answered every WNMU run before the home team posted three of the final four points of the set to take a 25-21 win.
WNMU committed just one hitting error in the second set, hitting .556 with 11 kills for a 25-12 victory over MSU. An 8-1 run to break a 4-4 tie set the stage for Western New Mexico before keeping distance from Midwestern the remainder of the set.

Aerielle Edwards combined for nine of MSU's 12 kills in the third frame but 10 hitting errors prevented the Mustangs from forcing a fourth set in a 25-21 loss. A 10-4 WNMU run to begin the set kept the momentum on the home side until a 4-0 spurt midway through the set evened it up at 15 apiece. However, WNMU was able to pull away down the stretch thanks to a 6-2 run to record the sweep.
