Mustangs down Collin, Seward County to push win streak to six

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 11 Midwestern State extended its winning streak to six matches following a pair of wins over nationally-ranked NJCAA teams Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center, defeating No. 11 Collin College, 8-1, before taking down No. 4 Seward County, 6-1.

Freshman Dillon Pineda led Midwestern State (12-4) with four wins Friday, collecting singles wins on courts three and four while teaming up with senior Zack Santagate for doubles wins at Nos. 1 and 2. The duo rallied from an early deficit to record a 9-8 victory at No. 2 doubles to help the Mustangs earn a doubles sweep against Collin College (5-10).

After freshman Benjamin Neander posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4, Pineda clinched the match for Midwestern on court three with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph. Daniel Gomez earned the lone point for the Cougars at the top position with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 victory over junior Ramon Toyos.

The Mustangs took a 2-1 advantage over Seward County (13-5) after doubles play with senior Kyle Davidson and Neander propelling MSU to a lead following a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Pineda recorded his sixth-straight singles win to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead over the Saints after Toyos collected a straight-set victory at No. 2. Junior Chris Norrie clinched the match for the Mustangs with a win on court three before No. 44 Davidson finished off the afternoon with a super tiebreaker win at No. 1 for a 6-1 final.

Midwestern State takes on No. 16 Northwest Missouri State in a 3 p.m. matchup tomorrow at Southwest Baptist's John A. Bryant Tennis Center in Bolivar, Mo.
