TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – In a matchup of two top-20 nationally-ranked teams, the 20th-ranked Midwestern State women's tennis team fell short in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 loss to No. 16 Northeastern State at the NSU Tennis Complex.

Karla Tomaic recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory over Alexis Arrieta at No. 6 singles to clinch Northeastern State's 13th-straight win to move to 17-2 on the season. The Central Region's No. 1-ranked team posted wins in two of three doubles matches while claiming straight-set wins on three courts along with a three-set victory to defeat the Mustangs.

Midwestern State fell to 17-8 on the season with the RiverHawks snapping a three-match win streak for the Maroon and Gold.

In doubles play, the duo of senior Maddie Schorlemmer and junior Abby White put Midwestern in front early as the pair cruised to an 8-0 victory over Tomaic and Easton Parker at No. 3. However, the RiverHawks responded with an 8-2 win at No. 2 and an 8-3 victory on court one to pull ahead heading into singles play.

White and freshman Eirini Kontaki each extended their win streaks to four matches after coming away with singles wins on the day.

White improved to a team-best 17-3 on the year with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Parker at No. 5 singles to even the match at 2-2. With the match decided, Kontaki rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Daria Panferova, the No. 6-ranked player in the Central Region, for her fifth win over a regionally-ranked opponent this season to move to 14-9 overall.

Midwestern State begins its quest for a third-straight Lone Star Conference Championship next weekend as the Mustangs serve as hosts for the two-day event at the MSU Tennis Center. The No. 2 seed Mustangs begin play Friday at 10 a.m. against No. 3 Tarleton State in the LSC semifinals. The championship match will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. against the winner between top-seeded Cameron and No. 4 Texas A&M-Kingsville.
