Mustangs defeat UAFS on Senior Day, Linn earns 100th career win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The 20th-ranked Midwestern State women's tennis team closed out their home slate Friday afternoon with a 7-2 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Senior Day.

The program honored seniors Lindsay Nochowicz, Lauren Pineda and Maddie Schorlemmer as they played their final regular season home match at the MSU Tennis Center. 

Midwestern State (17-7) won its third-straight contest, claiming two of three doubles matches before earning five wins in straight sets in singles to give head coach Scott Linn his 100th career win with the program, improving to 100-47 (.680) in his sixth season with the team.

Nochowicz clinched the match for the Mustangs at No. 5 singles, earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory to put MSU up 5-1. Nochowicz also teamed up with freshman Eirini Kontaki at No. 1 doubles as the 23rd-ranked duo posted an 8-6 win for the first point of the match.

Arkansas-Fort Smith (2-15) evened the match at 1-1 with Madison Carr and Kendra Dinsmore earning an 8-6 win over Schorlemmer and junior Abby White at No. 3 doubles. However, the Mustangs would go back in front with sophomore Amy Clifton and freshman Greta Lazzarotto winning the last three games for a 9-7 victory at No. 2. Lazzarotto notched her 15th-straight doubles win to improve to a team-best 22-2 on the season.

White and Kontaki quickly extended the MSU lead in singles play with a pair of straight-set wins for a 4-1 advantage before Nochowicz's clincher. White moved to a team-high 16-3 on the season with her 10th win at No. 6.

Carr posted her second win of the day for the Lady Lions at No. 4 singles after Clifton retired while leading 6-4, 2-2.

Lazzarotto and 27th-ranked Schorlemmer closed out the match for the Mustangs with a pair of dominant wins for the 7-2 victory.

Midwestern State wraps up the regular season tomorrow at noon with a matchup against No. 16 Northeastern State at the NSU Tennis Complex in Tahlequah, Okla.
