ARLINGTON, Texas – The 20th-ranked Midwestern State women's tennis team was unable to pull off their second top-15 win of the season Saturday morning at the Arlington Tennis Center as the Mustangs dropped a 5-2 contest to No. 12 St. Mary's.

St. Mary's (11-3) clinched the match at No. 5 singles with Ally Maciel recording a 6-2, 7-5 win over senior Lindsay Nochowicz. Senior Lauren Pineda and junior Abby White were in third sets on courts four and six, respectively, when the match was called.

The Rattlers claimed two of out three matches in doubles behind the play of a pair of top-20 nationally-ranked doubles tandems.

STMU struck first when the 11th-ranked duo of Jamie Lee Denton and Kaylin Kruseman earned an 8-3 win over No. 23 Nochowicz and freshman Eirini Kontaki at the top position. No. 18 Cristina Lopez and Hannah Petersen followed with an 8-3 victory of their own at No. 2 over Pineda and sophomore Amy Clifton to snap their five-match win streak.

Senior Maddie Schorlemmer and freshman Greta Lazzarotto avoided the doubles sweep for Midwestern State (10-5) with an 8-6 win at No. 3 to win their sixth consecutive match and improve to 13-2 on the season.

In singles play, 27th-ranked Schorlemmer evened up the contest at 2-2 with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 triumph over No. 44 Denton at the top position. However, the Rattlers depth proved to be too much for the Mustangs as STMU recorded straight-set wins on courts two, three and five to clinch the victory.
